Platform Engineer (Database Reliability)

This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of large-scale production database systems within a modern cloud-based platform environment.
You will play a key role in maintaining and improving MySQL database performance, resilience, and availability across mission-critical production systems.
The position combines deep database operations expertise with broader platform engineering responsibilities, including automation, observability, and infrastructure optimization.
You will collaborate closely with engineering and platform teams to strengthen system reliability, improve incident response practices, and enhance operational maturity.
The role also involves contributing to infrastructure-as-code initiatives and cloud-native tooling to support scalable and efficient deployments.
It is a high-impact engineering position in a fast-moving environment where ownership, reliability thinking, and continuous improvement are essential.

Accountabilities:

• Ensure reliability, scalability, and operational stability of production MySQL database environments.
• Manage database operations including replication, failover, backups, recovery, upgrades, and performance tuning.
• Contribute to platform engineering initiatives including automation, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud infrastructure improvements.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, and observability systems to enhance production visibility and incident response.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database, infrastructure, and application issues in production environments.
• Support incident response processes, including root cause analysis and long-term remediation strategies.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in on-call rotations supporting production systems and ensuring uptime.
• Contribute to operational best practices and continuous platform improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, SRE, DevOps, Infrastructure, or Database Reliability roles.
• Strong hands-on experience managing production MySQL environments, including replication and performance optimization.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as GCP or equivalent environments.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools.
• Strong Linux systems administration and troubleshooting skills in production environments.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools for distributed systems.
• Scripting and automation skills in Bash, Python, Go, JavaScript, or similar languages.
• Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and incident response capabilities.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment.
• Exposure to security practices, access management, or configuration tools like Ansible is a plus.
